Consent to Verification of Identity (VOI) Using the Document Verification Service (DVS) & Identity Verification Service (IVS)
Robbins Conveyancing and Robbins Lawyers use the Document Verification Service (DVS) and Identity Verification Service (IVS), provided securely through our approved Gateway Service Provider Scantek Australia, to confirm the authenticity of your identity documents.
By signing this form, you (or your authorised agent) consent to us making an Information Match Request through the DVS/IVS.
Information Match Request means an electronic request to the DVS by a user to be provided with an electronic response indicating that the information provided in the request either matches or does not match the relevant official recorded data.
- How we use the DVS/IVS
- The DVS and IVS electronically compare the details on your identity documents (such as passports, driver’s licences or Medicare cards) against government records.
- The result confirms whether the document details provided are consistent with government records.
- Your information is only used for this verification purpose and for meeting our legal and regulatory obligations.
- Our legal obligations
We are required under South Australian and Commonwealth legislation to verify the identity of clients in property and legal transactions. This includes obligations under, but not limited to:
- The Real Property Act 1886 (SA);
- The Electronic Conveyancing National Law (SA);
- The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth); and
- The Attorney-General’s Department DVS Participation Agreement.
- Your rights
You have the right to:
- Know why and how your information is being collected;
- Access and request correction of your information;
- Withdraw your consent at any time (before verification is completed); and
- Make a complaint if you believe your information has been mishandled.
- Consequences of declining consent
If you do not consent to the use of the DVS/IVS, we cannot complete your verification electronically. Instead, you may use one of the following alternative methods:
- Australia Post Verification of Identity service; or
- Face-to-face Verification of Identity in person at our office or another approved location.
Please note that these alternatives may take longer and could delay your transaction.
- Complaints
If you wish to make a complaint about how your information is collected, used or disclosed for DVS purposes, you can:
- Contact Robbins Lawyers and/or Robbins Conveyancing directly; or
- Refer to the Document Verification Service (DVS) Access Policy, published by the Attorney-General’s Department, available here:
Document Verification Service Access Policy
- Model Consent Statement
We use the Model Consent Statement provided by the Attorney-General’s Department. Please refer to the DVS Access Policy above for more information.
- Consent
By consenting to this policy;
- You consent to Robbins Lawyers and/or Robbins Conveyancing (or your authorised agent) making an Information Match Request through the DVS/IVS for the purpose of verifying your identity; and
- You acknowledge that you have read and understood this consent form, including your rights and alternatives if you do not consent; and
- You confirm that you are authorised to provide the personal details presented and you consent to your information being checked with the document issuer or official record holder via third party systems for the purpose of confirming your identity.
